Postdoctoral Position at the University of California, Davis in Aerosol Chemistry-Cloud-Climate Connections

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Davis working with Prof. Chris Cappa on a project within the NSF Center for Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry of the Environment (CAICE; caice.ucsd.edu). The position will focus on developing fundamental insights into the role that chemical complexity plays—and especially the role of organic compounds—in dictating the growth of aerosol particles into cloud droplets. The position will allow for developing expertise in a variety of experimental methods, including a unique cloud-droplet growth chamber (the CFSTGC), and will aim to make strong links between experiment and theory. The work is motivated by processes occurring in the marine environment, but has broad applicability to atmospheric processes in general. As part of CAICE, the position will allow access to resources and provide numerous opportunities for collaboration, mentorship and engagement across the Center.

Requirements:

The position requires a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, physical chemistry, atmospheric science or a related field. Strong candidates will have previous experimental experience and demonstrate an ability to think creatively about problems both as an individual and as part of a diverse, collaborative environment.
