My students and I conduct research into the dynamics and control of flight vehicles. As the chart below indicates, this research involves aircraft dynamics, human/machine systems and robust flight control systems. The work is applied primarily to atmospheric flight vehicles that range in size and mission from small uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs), to large helicopters, transport and fighter aircraft. Before joining the UC Davis faculty in 1982, I served as a research scientist at NASA Ames Research Center, performing research on pilot/aircraft interaction with emphasis on vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
