His research emphasis is in the areas of energy-efficient light sources, cathodoluminescent phosphor technology, and issues relating to the color quality and the human experience of artificial light sources. Since 2010, a major focus has been examination of the human response, physiological and emotive, to artificial light. He is a Founding Member of the Blue Light Group.
