{"id":25,"date":"2013-02-26T20:39:52","date_gmt":"2013-02-26T20:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/faculty.engineering.ucdavis.edu\/template\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2025-03-31T11:14:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T19:14:48","slug":"biography","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/faculty.engineering.ucdavis.edu\/joshi\/biography\/","title":{"rendered":"Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Biography:<\/h3>\n<p>Sanjay Joshi is <a href=\"https:\/\/mae.ucdavis.edu\/directory\/sanjay-joshi\">Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering<\/a> at the University of California, Davis, where he directs the R<a href=\"https:\/\/research.engineering.ucdavis.edu\/rascal\/\">obotics, Autonomous Systems, and Controls Laboratory<\/a>. Dr. Joshi received a BS from Cornell University in 1990, and MS\/PhD from UCLA in 1992\/1996, all in Electrical Engineering. After his doctoral work, he became a member of the technical staff at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California working on control systems and robotics. After joining academia, he began applying robotics and controls to the study of behavior, cognition, and human-machine interfaces. In 2010-2011, he was Visiting Associate Professor at Columbia University Medical School, New York City in the Department of Neurology. In 2014, Dr. Joshi formed the UC Davis Neuroengineering and Medicine Initiative, which led to the <a href=\"http:\/\/neuroengineering.ucdavis.edu\">UC Davis Center for Neuroengineering and Medicine<\/a> (est. 2020). From 2020-2022, he served as one of the founding Co-Directors of this center. He currently serves on the leadership team for the UC Davis Center for Space Exploration Research.
