Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) 

Machine Systems

Location: The University of California, Davis.

Responsibilities: The University of California, Davis is seeking a graduate (M.S. or Ph.D.) student to conduct machine systems research. The primary project focus will be on vehicle rollover accidents. We seek a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work in the Machine Systems lab. Experiments will be designed to evaluate the performance of new designs of roll bars to protect operators in rollover accidents. The rollover accident will be simulated experimentally (static and dynamic test) and theoretically (finite element analysis). The successful candidate will have a B.S. or higher degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related fields; should have strong written and oral English skills; will be willing to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students to conduct lab research. Additional highly desirable qualifications that applicants can address in the statement of purpose include experience in machine design and analysis, mechanism design, capstone design, automotive design, stability and performance, machine testing and development, 3D modeling software (such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc. …), finite element analysis, strong organizational skills, ability and self-motivation to work independently while accomplishing high quality tasks in a timely fashion.

Closing Date: Screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until filled. Applicants may have the opportunity to undertake summer hourly employment prior to Fall 2018 quarter enrollment.

To the southwest, the UC Davis Arboretum features acres of gardens, with trails and a lake. Locally grown produce is sold at the Davis Farmers Market. The Hattie Weber Museum has exhibits on the area’s history, including dresses from the 1920s and ‘30s.
