Mark started his career at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and is currently the Director of the Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) and the Energy and Efficiency Institute at UC Davis. Dr. Modera came to UC Davis in 2008, where in addition to directing the WCEC, he teaches engineering fundamentals and new HVAC courses. The WCEC currently consists of roughly 30 people working to facilitate the implementation of efficient HVAC technologies through manufacturer/utility/customer partnerships, as well as to develop and test new energy-efficient and peak-demand-sensitive HVAC technologies.
In addition to his academic career, Mark has spent time in the business world, including founding, growing and selling a company based upon a technology he developed at LBNL, and then working for the corporate buyer. He continues to provide technical and strategic consulting to that company, as well as to other start-up companies and large corporations.
