He earned his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, with a minor in Acoustics, from The Pennsylvania State University in 2009. After completing a one-year postdoctoral appointment at Penn State, he joined General Electric (GE) Global Research Center in Niskayuna, New York, where he served for five years as a Lead Mechanical Engineer and Program Manager for Advanced Design Tools. Dr. Lee joined UC Davis in 2015 as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020, and to Professor in 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"--tw-border-spacing-x: 0;--tw-border-spacing-y: 0;--tw-translate-x: 0;--tw-translate-y: 0;--tw-rotate: 0;--tw-skew-x: 0;--tw-skew-y: 0;--tw-scale-x: 1;--tw-scale-y: 1;--tw-scroll-snap-strictness: proximity;--tw-ring-offset-width: 0px;--tw-ring-offset-color: #fff;--tw-ring-offset-shadow: 0 0 transparent;--tw-ring-shadow: 0 0 transparent;--tw-shadow: 0 0 transparent;--tw-shadow-colored: 0 0 transparent;margin: 1.25em 0px\">Professor Lee is an internationally recognized expert in rotorcraft computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and aeroacoustics, turbulent boundary-layer flows, trailing-edge noise, wind turbine aerodynamics and acoustics, and theoretical and computational aeroacoustics. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in these areas. He is particularly well known for his collaborative work with students on the development of UCD-QuietFly, a computer code for predicting rotorcraft broadband noise that has gained wide recognition and adoption in both academic and industrial communities. His research has been supported by a broad range of sponsors, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, the U.S. Army, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Hyundai Motor Company, Supernal, the Hellman Foundation, the National Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM), and UC Davis. He served as the Technical Discipline Chair for Aeroacoustics at AIAA SciTech 2023 and as the Acoustics Session Chair for the Vertical Flight Society (VFS) in 2022. He is a member of both the AIAA Aeroacoustics Technical Committee and the VFS Acoustics Technical Committee. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Helicopter Society.
