October 2025: 2025 Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Conference<\/h4>

Prof. Takamura will present an invited talk at the 2025 Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Conference in West Palm Beach, FL. The talk is entitled “Tailoring magnetic spin textures in La0.7<\/sub>Sr0.3<\/sub>MnO3<\/sub>-based micromagnets” and will be delivered at 10:45 am on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the session on Magnetoelectrics and Multiferroics II.

October 2025: UC Davis Lab Safety Award<\/h4>

The Takamura Research Group was recognized for our longstanding efforts for lab safety with the 2025 Grand Prize for Lab Safety<\/a> from UC Davis Safety Services. In addition, we were excited to share the honor with Bill Doering who was awarded a Safety Star for his contributions to safety for the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.<\/p>

October 2025: IEEE Magnetics Society – Swedish Chapter<\/h4>

Prof. Takamura and Prof. Guenter Reiss presented their IEEE Magnetics Society Distinguished Lecturer talks at the first symposium hosted by the Swedish Chapter of the IEEE Magnetics Society in Gothenburg, Sweden.<\/p>

September 2025: Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Research Symposium<\/h4>

Matthew Frame presented his work at the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Research Symposium at UC Davis. His talk was entitled “In Situ<\/em> Characterization of Cobalt Nanoparticle Exsolution During Topotactic Transformations in Lanthanum-Strontium-Cobaltite Thin Films.<\/p>

Matthew Frame and Ishmam Nihal presented their work at the 2025 Spring MRS Meeting in Seattle, WA.\u00a0 Matthew’s talk was entitled “In Situ<\/em> Characterization of Cobalt Nanoparticle Exsolution During Topotactic Transformations in Lanthanum-Strontium-Cobaltite Thin Films” and Ishmam’s talk was entitled “Investigating Interfacial Exchange Interaction and Antiferromagnetic Moment Orientations in La0.5<\/sub>Sr0.5<\/sub>FeO3<\/sub> \/ La0.7<\/sub>Sr0.3<\/sub>MnO3<\/sub> Bilayers”.<\/p>

Prof. Takamura has been selected as one of three Distinguished Lecturers from the IEEE Magnetics Society<\/a>. As a Distinguished Lecturer, she will travel around the world for 2025-2027 delivering her talk entitled “Tailoring Magnetic Spin Textures in La0.7<\/sub>Sr0.3<\/sub>MnO3<\/sub>-Based Micromagnets”<\/a>.<\/p>

January 2025: Q-MEEN-C work highlighted by the U.S. Department of Energy<\/h4>

A recent Q-MEEN-C publication led by the group of Prof. Andy Kent at New York University including work by Dayne Sasaki was highlighted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The paper is entitled \u201cVoltage-induced magnetic domain evolution in a phase-change material<\/a>\u201d,\u00a0Applied Physics Letters,\u00a0<\/em>125<\/strong>, 262406 (2024). January 2025: The Molecular Foundry Calendar<\/h4>

Hudson’s image was selected as the cover page as well as the October image for the 2025 Molecular Foundry Calendar.<\/a><\/p>

The description reads:<\/p>

“Sunset in the Atomic Alps”, by Hudson Shih, Seung Sae Hong, and Yayoi Takamura from UC Davis. This image won first place in the 2024 NanoArt Image contest.
Atomic terrace steps on the (001) facet of a single-crystal membrane of strontium cobalt oxide (Sr2<\/sub>Co2<\/sub>O5<\/sub>). These steps arise due to a small angle of miscut relative to the facet ( <0.5 \u00b0 ). If the miscut angle were exactly 0 degrees, no steps would be present! These single crystal oxide membranes provide an ideal material platform for plan-view transmission electron microscope (TEM) imaging at the National Center for Electron Microscopy because they have millimeter lateral dimensions, but nanometer scale thicknesses. With TEM of Sr2<\/sub>Co2<\/sub>O5<\/sub> membranes, oxygen ion diffusion can be observed within the crystal lattice.<\/p>
