He received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley in 2013, with a focus on integrated optoelectronics and nanofabricated devices. He developed the theory of high contrast grating, and incorporated it in a realm of optoelectronic devices for novel functionality, such as widely-tunable vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, fast optical phased array, and low-loss hollow-core waveguides. He joined Department of Biological Sciences as a postdoctoral research scientist in 2014, and developed holographic two-photon microscopy for 3D imaging and manipulation of neural activity in mice cortex&nbsp;<em>in vivo<\/em>. He investigated the organization and plasticity of neural circuits in mice cortex.
