Major collaboration activities of “WiFiUS: Sequential Inference and Learning for Agile Spectrum Use”

Student supervising and exchange. Each PI actively participated in the supervising of other PIs’ PhD students. For example: 1) PI Lai and PI Poor served on the PhD dissertation committee of Jan Oksanen, a PhD student (PI Koivunen’s PhD student) at Aalto University with thesis title “Machine learning methods for spectrum exploration and exploitation”. Furthermore, PI Lai served as pre-examiner of Oksanen’s thesis while PI Poor served as the opponent on the dissertation defense. In addition, both PI Lai and PI Poor hosted Jan Oksanen’s visits to their perspective groups. 2) PI Poor hosted Wenwen Tu (PI Lai’s PhD student) at Princeton University as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator for four months.

Faculty visiting. Three PIs visited each other’s group for research discussions. For example: 1) Visit to Princeton University: Both PI Lai and Visa visited Princeton University in summer 2015 and summer 2016. 2) Visit to Aalto University: PI Poor visited Aalto University in 2016. 3) Visit to UC Davis: PI Poor visited UC Davis in 2017.

Conference meeting. Three PIs also held project discussions at various conferences. For example: 1) Three PIs all attended and met at ICASSP 2016; 2) Three PIs all attended and met at ISIT 2016; 3) PIs Koivunen  and Lai attended and met at ICASSP 2017; 4) PIs Lai and Poor attended and met at ISIT 2017.
